Before the establishment of Pangasinan State University (PSU), Alaminos City Campus (ACC) in 2010, quality but affordable higher education seemed elusive for the underprivileged youths in District 1 of Pangasinan which consists of Agno, Alaminos, Anda, Bani, Bolinao, Burgos, Dasol, Infanta, Mabini, and Sual since there were only a few private colleges in the said district and were offering limited degree programs and scholarships. High school graduates from far-flung barrios back then flocked to Lingayen and Dagupan to find degree programs and colleges or universities that suit their interests and income. PSU-Lingayen Campus alone has been accommodating a number of students from District 1.
In cognizance of this, Dr. Elena R. Barcelona, the first Executive Director of Alaminos, together with then University President Dr. Victoriano C. Estira pushed for the establishment of ACC. And with the unyielding support from former City Mayor Hernani A. Braganza, ACC started to operate in 2010. The local government unit of Alaminos purchased a 3.5-hectare land in Brgy. Bolaney, Alaminos City, Pangasinan and built the two-storey Purita R.A. Braganza building to house the administrative offices, classrooms, computer laboratories, and library.
Starting with only 403 students in 2010, PSU-ACC is currently catering to 2,082 students from different municipalities in District 1. This time, PSU-ACC owns the campus land through a deed of donation made possible by the local government unit of Alaminos through the leadership of Mayor Arth Bryan C. Celeste and now Congressman Arthur F. Celeste.
Now on its twelfth year of operation, PSU-ACC’s journey as an academic institution is characterized by numerous successes brought about by the exemplary leadership of its administrators, dedicated service of its employees, ingenuity among its students, cooperation of the larger PSU community, and staunch support from the local government unit of Alaminos.
