For four years in a row, Pangasinan State University has earned the nod of its certifying body for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 Certification.

From February 6 to 7 2020, PSU underwent Quality Management System (QMS) audit with the SOCOTEC Certification Phils Incorporated whose findings were only minor non conformities and observations.  SOCOTEC has found that PSU’s major processes have met the 9001:2015 standards thus it consequently recommended the institution for a recertification.

The certification scope covered provision of tertiary education services in Instruction, Research, Extension, Production, University Level Management Processes, Performance Evaluation and Improvement Processes and Campus Support Services.

As the audit objective, SOCOTEC has confirmed the continued conformity and effectiveness of the management system as a whole, and its continued relevance and applicability for the scope of certification. The validity of said certification will be until 2023.

Simultaneous QMS Audit began with Asingan, Bayambang, Binmaley, Infanta, and Sta. Maria campuses on the first day in the following areas: Leadership Management functions-Discussions on the organization’s context, issues, IPs needs and expectations, risks and opportunities; Handling of complaints and customer satisfaction; Sampling of Student Affairs Services; Curriculum Design and Development; Sampling of programs including sampling of laboratory; Admission / Registrar (Enrolment / Registration process) / Issuance of records; Library; and  Engineering / Facilities and related maintenance activities.

Meanwhile, audit continued on the second day with Alaminos, San Carlos, Urdaneta, and Lingayen campuses in the following added to the same areas audited in the first day: Research and Extension; Production sampling; Plant Facility Development (maintenance related activities) including ICT maintenance; Purchasing/ Supply and Property; Incoming inspection; Control of outsource service providers; Document control activities; Internal Audit; and Management Review audited against set ISO 9001:2015 standards.

“The success of the QMS Recertification is because of the full support of the administration headed by University President Dr. Dexter R. Buted and the commitment and participation of the faculty, staff and students for without them we could not do it solely in the unit. We are thankful and blessed that we have people around us who are continuously supporting and embracing the quality assurance initiatives of the university. Let this be an inspiration for all of us to move further and attain the vision of the university to become recognized State University in the near future,” Vice President for Planning and Quality Assurance Dr. Ruby Rosa V. Cruz said.

Accordingly, Quality Assurance Director Mr. Elbert Galas said that having the capability to conform with both local and global standards breeds from an efficient work environment which depicts that employees of an institution extend excellent and quality service to their clienteles agreeing to the above statement of Dr. Cruz.

PSU first earned the ISO 9001:2015 in the year 2016 after Dr. Buted initiated the creation of a Quality Assurance office in 2015. The following years, it was subsequently recommended for recertification and to date, as the institution’s QMS is recertified, the institution also renews its commitment to sustain quality and be worthy of ISO certification.
