For the experience and recognition, the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) program of PSU deserved some kudos for winning the gold award in the 10th Goldilocks Intercollegiate Cake Deco Challenge (ICDC) last February 25.
With almost 100 participating schools all over the country, PSU qualified in the top 10 finalists who went head-to-head in a live cake decorating competition in a span of five hours in front of a live audience and a panel of judges composed of the leading authorities in the culinary arts industry held at The Block, SM North Edsa, Manila.
Five selected BSHM students from Lingayen and San Carlos campuses represented PSU in the said competition. The students namely Karl Aron Rarang, Jayson Sarmiento, Erika Legaspi, Roger Gubatan and Sweet Hazel Fernandez were accompanied by the faculty members of BSHM. The said students won the Gold theme under category 5 wherein they received medals, trophy, 50,000 worth of baking showcase and a gift check worth Php10,000.
This yearโs theme,โXtremeโ, showcased the creativity and talent of the finalists in cake decorating categorized in five themes based on the 50th anniversary of Goldilocks: 2050 theme for category 1, 50th Birthday theme for category 2, 50th Wedding Anniversary theme for category 3, 50 cents theme for category 4, and Gold theme for category 5.
The five BSHM students first trained in the HRMTC Function room, PSU Lingayen before an intensive training by top pastry chefs namely Chef Joan Leslie Dela Cruz, Chef Joan Fajardo and Chef Ed Baldoza in Mandaluyong City tapped by Goldilocks to provide high-level, hands-on mentorship in a fun and interactive learning experience.
